The 52-year-old man got out of the apartment as quick as he could and called police at 5:28 p.m. to report the break-in. The man told police he suspected that his former "virtual" girlfriend was again trying to kidnap him, county police spokesman Cpl. Trinidad Navarro said. Two weeks ago, the woman, Kimberly Jernigan, 33, of Durham, N.C., allegedly surprised him at gunpoint outside his job in Pennsylvania, the man said. County officers searched the apartment at Whitney Presidential Towers in the 7100 block of Society Drive. The intruder was not there, but officers found a pair of handcuffs, a roll of duct tape and a dog named Gogi duct-taped in the bathroom. Investigators believe the woman cut a screen in the bedroom to get into the apartment. A radio broadcast went out to surrounding police agencies to be on the lookout for the blue 2008 Kia Rio with North Carolina plates that Jernigan was driving.
