Whitbread sales benefit from downturn - Telegraph

The owner of the Premier Inn hotel chain and Brewers Fayre pubs said like-for-like sales rose 7pc in the half and total revenue increased 13pc to £682.2m. Pretax profit rose to £117.1m from £93m.Since the end of the first half in August, Whitbread said it's budget brands have made "good progress,'' but chief executive Alan Parker warned conditions would be ``more challenging'' for the rest of the year, with the UK economy headed for recession.
